What to do before applying

Collect photos

Almost all workshops consider the cost of the photo, so it's worth sending the first message:

  • the damage is large and the same place from a distance;
  • a ruler or coin next to it for scale;
  • Frame serial number and model;
  • circumstances: fall, yoke tightening, transportation.

Check that it is maintainable

Local crack, chip, sagging pipe and delamination are usually restored. More difficult are the nodes with mortgages and seats: steering cup, carriage, dropouts, seatpost clamp zone. A rupture along the entire circumference of the pipe and a "crumpled" zone over a large area often mean replacement, not repair.

Ask about flaw detection

After a serious fall, a visible crack is not always the only one. Part of the workshops does a separate inspection of the frame and fork for hidden damage and factory defects: it's cheaper than finding out about the second crack already at the race.

Coordinate logistics and acceptance

Specify whether it is necessary to remove the suspension and disassemble the frameset, how to pack the frame, which transport company to send and what is included in the price: only repair or even painting the seam and restoring the marking.
