Bicycle frame painting: technology and price composition
To get comparable offers, send the workshops the same terms of reference. The frame material, the complexity of the drawing and the need to disassemble the bike affect the composition of the work.
Start with the material and condition
Tell us the frame model and material: steel, aluminum, titanium or carbon. Add photos of coverage and damage. Ask the workshop to confirm that the selected technology is suitable for this frame.
The catalog contains powder coating, liquid enamels, airbrushing and local restoration. Do not choose a technology based only on price: surface preparation and temperature conditions must match the material and construction. Promiks separates powder coating of metal frames and work with liquid enamels with carbon.
Describe the expected result
- One color or several, gloss or matte surface.
- Do I need inscriptions, decals, restoration of the factory design?
- What is painted: frame, fork, individual parts.
- Who disassembles and assembles the bike.
- Which traces of use should disappear, and what is acceptable to keep.
Attach a reference and coordinate the color with the master. A photo on the screen does not guarantee an exact match of the shade of the finished coating.
Consider preparation and assembly separately
The example of the VeloLab price list shows why the price of painting the frame and the price of the finished bike are different:
- The frame, except for the two-suspension, is the same color: 7 500 ₽
- Double-suspension frame: 15 000 ₽
- Custom: from 26,000 ₽
- Disassembly and assembly of the bike: 3 500–7 500 ₽
For a regular frame, sandblasting and one color are indicated in the price list. Disassembly/assembly is considered separately according to the type of bike. Frame material, decal, varnish, timing and possibility of shipment must be agreed before ordering.

Coordinate the acceptance and delivery
Before transferring the frame, specify the deadline, the queue, the procedure for approving the design and surcharges. Ask about warranty coverage, terms of care and packaging for return shipment. Coordinate the preservation of frame markings and the protection of component installation sites.
If there is a suspicion of structural damage, first discuss diagnostics and repair of carbon fiber. Cosmetic coating is not a confirmation of the serviceability of the frame.
