Description

Historical background. There are no regulations for setting a speed record, so all records are set thanks to technical support. The maximum speed developed by a person on a bicycle. The current record for the fastest speed on a bicycle was set in 2018 by the American cycling champion Denis Muller-Korenek. It accelerated to 295.6 km/h on the bottom of the dried-up salt Lake Bonneville in Utah. At first, the cyclist accelerated to 241 km/h, being towed by a dragster. Then the cable was disconnected, and the athlete continued to gain speed on her own. The car in front cut through the air, creating an aerodynamic pocket. The highest speed that a person could reach on a bicycle by his own strength, without the help of other equipment, is 133.78 km/h. This record belongs to Sebastian Bowyer. However, the device on which it is installed does not look much like an ordinary bike. The VeloX3 was designed specifically to set a record — the rider takes an almost recumbent position in it, pedaling forward. For better aerodynamics, the bike is enclosed by an aerodynamic body resembling that of a Formula 1 car. The case has no front window and the rider was watching the road with a camera. Eric Baron became the record holder in absolute speed on the descent. In 2017, he broke his own record and accelerated to 228 km/h in the French Alps. It was possible to gain such speed thanks to a bike redesigned in a wind tunnel and a special suit of the racer himself. After several months of alterations, not a single standard part remained on the bike — all the elements were redesigned to withstand extreme loads. Whether these records are considered honest, write in the comments.
